I moved to Port Moody in 2016 with my husband and two children, both of whom are recent SD43 grads. As a parent, I understand what families need from their schools, including real support and a board that listens.
I’m running for School Trustee because I believe Port Moody needs a strong representative at the SD43 board table. I’ve done the work to understand how SD43 operates, and I’m ready to work with my fellow trustees to create a school system we are all proud of.
My path to running for school trustee has been shaped by years of hands-on community leadership.
In 2011, I was elected to the Village of Anmore Council. My oldest child was in her first years of elementary school, and being elected meant I could help get Eagle Mountain Middle School built and a daycare grant utilised for 63 much-needed childcare spaces in our community. Good work takes time and careful planning. Today, both of my children are recent SD43 grads, and I’ve seen firsthand how leadership decisions can have lasting impacts for our kids.
My experience working in non-profit, with all levels of government, managing large budgets, and working collaboratively with the community has stayed with me.
Throughout my non-profit career, I’ve supported initiatives in the social and environmental sectors through organizations like United Way and BC Parks Foundation. I was manager of BC’s Confederation of Parent Advisory Councils, where I gained a practical understanding of provincial education policy and what families across British Columbia need from their public schools. I was involved in the early planning of BC’s new curriculum and know how important it is for parents to work alongside teachers to advocate for better education and supports for students.
